Lolladays: Day Two

Festival pace picks up as Day 2 rolls in, and we’d already been rolling on grueling pace and meager rations.  I check in at the Hard Rock’s press area for a much-needed bite, and find myself to be just the right amount of exhausted to justify a $4, 3-minute cab ride from the hotel to the festival grounds.  The concierge and cab driver both look at me like I’m crazy—as if the growing rainbow of wristbands on my right arm (currently sitting at 7) wasn’t already a dead giveaway.

Lolladays: Day One

Lollapalooza weekend presents us Eleven staffers with a very special challenge: can one three-day span of music and parties be better than Christmas?  At either, one finds camaraderie, family, feasts, and a heightened thirst for life and joy.  It’s just that Lollapalooza’s serving on the order of a hundred thousand music zealots in one sitting.

Lollapalooza: Day 1 Highlights

The first day of Lollapalooza went off without a hitch – beautiful weather graced Grant Park, Chicago for a great day of music of all varieties.

The Walkmen – 1:00 PM – adidas MEGA Stage

Walkmen singer Hamilton Leithauser knows how to belt it out.  Crooning and yelling though a tight, hour long set, Leithauser led the band and a guest horn section through the band’s repertoire, including some new songs from upcoming Lisbon.  The band blazed through some quicker tracks, like audience favorite “The Rat,” but the group The Walkmen weren’t afraid to keep the tempo down.  With Leithauser’s captivating vocals and keyboardist Walter Martin’s entrancing organ tones, the band kept the audience engaged and nodding along. Lollapalooza: Day -1

Lollapalooza officially starts today, but there’s nothing wrong with getting a bit of a headstart.  B.o.B. and Kid Sister played blogger extraordinaire Perez Hilton’s Lolla pre-party at the Hard Rock Hotel in downtown Chicago.  Now that we got our feet wet, it’s time for the real deal. (more…)

Lollapalooza is Approaching

Tell your boss you’re taking Friday off, buy a 3-day pass, and start the trek North to Chicago for the nation’s baddest music festival, Lollapalooza.  Tickets aren’t cheap, but you get what you pay for: three days of musical juggernauts (ex: The Strokes, The Arcade Fire, Hot Chip, and of course Soundgarden) and up-and-comers (ex: Wavves, the XX, The Morning Benders, and Dawes).  The only difficult decision is which bands to see once you’re there, and who’s couch you’re going to crash on for the weekend. Stay tuned for Eleven’s yearly jaunt through Chicago, and hopefully we can document our antics in a legible manner.

RIP Fattback’s Dave Hagerty

ReverbNation

This afternoon, Fattback’s guitarist/vocalist Dave Hagerty passed away after being involved in a hit-and-run car accident on Sunday morning at the intersection of Kingshighway and Manchester.  He was with his girlfriend at the time of the accident, who suffered a broken arm and is currently in stable condition with a few minor injuries.

In addition to being the voice of Fattback, a reputable St. Louis band that released their EP EEE PEE last weekend, Hagerty was also a co-host of open-mic Monday’s at Venice Café.  Tonight at 9 PM, Venice Café will be hosting a memorial in remembrance and honor of Dave Hagerty.

Our thoughts are with Hagerty’s family and friends during this tragic time.
