Bathed in what was easily the most beautiful concert lighting I’ve encountered in a long time, a mildly scruffy Pete Yorn delivered an earnest, rocking performance at The Pageant last night. His set featured a full backing band, capping off the slow dynamic build of a night that began with mellow acoustic pop from The Wellspring and the always affable Ben Kweller. (more…)

When you are touring with dynamite acts like garage revivalists The Booze and psychedelic glam rockers Earl Greyhound opening for you, you had better be prepared to kick some ass when you take the stage as headliner. OK Go is hip to this and arrived at the Old Rock House armed with confetti cannons, hand bells, their own light show, and enough party-starting rock to hold their own on a fantastic triple bill. On a packed stage in a packed house, all three bands came, saw and conquered.

After a subdued opening set by a beer swilling duo version of Matt Pond PA, Ben Folds took to his Steinway and got right down to his business. Even without a backing band, he managed to keep the crowd entertained by performing tunes from every phase of his lengthy career, conducting sing-alongs, and even performing a drum solo. (more…)
