Where: the Gramophone
When: 9 PM
Starting the weekend on Thursday never hurt anyone – and, to kick it off right, there’s no doubt you’ll need to get down with Hollywood Holt at the Gramophone tonight. It’ll be a great night of DJ sets, and if you RSVP and arrive before 10 PM, free PBR (one or two is better than none)!

Gritty doesn’t begin to describe B. Dolan’s to-the-point narrative about post-9/11 desperation in the Big Apple. Back that up with a rapid fire, low-end beat, and you’ve got a solid response to Jay-Z’s glitzy panorama of New York. B. Dolan’s LP Fallen House, Sunken City drops early next week – be sure to give it a listen!

The Reeling Gilly create old-time, soulful rock ‘n’ roll. Though we’ve got a few months ’till those lazy, summer days need a soundtrack, we might as well get a head start. And to start off the night: Mike Kendrick and the Blue Eyed Sons provide the perfect, Midwest style Americana that’s not afraid to pack a punch.

As one of the founders of the French house movement, David Guetta has been rocking dance floors around the world for more than two decades. While he was in St. Louis for his DJ set at Home Nightclub, Eleven talked to David about the collaborations on his most recent album, One Love, and how to correctly DJ an airplane. (more…)

Looking to start your Mardi Gras weekend off right? The party begins at 9PM on Friday night with The Hood Internet’s genre swapping mash-ups (one of my favorites, Weezer vs. Drake). The Chicago DJ duo has taken the internet (and clubs all over the states) by storm with mixtapes and performances combining Top 100 rap with under-the-radar indie, which is a surprisingly good recipe for an epic dance party. See you there!

This Must Be the Band is aptly named. Complete with a wannabe Tina Weymouth, they rocked through hours of Talking Heads covers ranging from the straightforward “Psycho Killer” to experimental musings from Remain in Light. And for a second, if you closed your eyes, you could see an image of a pontificating David Byrne in your mind’s eye.

Choosing to shed guitar atmospherics and rerecord select songs acoustically, Asobi Seksu is definitely mixing things up. Be sure to catch them on their Rewolf acoustic tour at the Old Rock House this Thursday, February 4th. Eleven had the chance to speak with vocalist and keyboardist Yuki Chikudate about recording in the world-famous Olympic Studios and what “shoegaze” really means. (more…)

What a good idea! Spend your Saturday afternoon, evening, and night listening to some of St. Louis’ best indie and experimental artists in an intimate, eclectic setting. Whether it’s the ethereal, grand melodies of Syna So Pro or the electro, glitched out wackiness of Hood Kicks – you’re gonna have a good time. And, save a few bucks if you bring pot-luck food - Oh yeah. (more…)

Is that a M.I.A. vocal sample I hear? Vampire Weekend bury “Diplomat’s Son” late in their sophomore release, Contra, but this track is not to be passed over. Drum machine hits and sampler blips never meshed so well with Vampire Weekend’s relaxing, summer-in-the-Hamptons vibe. Listen to it at hypem.
