From the Vault: LouFest Day 2

“I expect a miracle every day” : Loufest Day 2

By Nathan Moore, Photos By: Gale Whitehead

Noon on the second day of LouFest found Kim Massie with a half filled drum kit and down one keyboard player.  No matter, the regal Ms. Massie explained, “I was singing a capella way before I was singing with a band,” and proceeded to do just that, releasing a powerful version of “Amazing Grace” all by herself, converting her stage and audience into a friendly church congregation.   (more…)

The St. Louis Secret Sound Society’s Secret Show tonight is at:

Eleven HQ (2603 Cherokee St., St. Louis, MO 63118).  We figured that it would be a good idea to let you know at some point.  Doors at 10, band at around 11, and we’ll be pumping jams before and after.  Also, a keg from The Stable will make an appearance.  All that for a $3 (minimum) donation to the STLSSS!  And what band is playing, you may ask?  So many loose lips sink ships.

Lollapalooza: Day 1 Highlights

The first day of Lollapalooza went off without a hitch – beautiful weather graced Grant Park, Chicago for a great day of music of all varieties.

The Walkmen – 1:00 PM – adidas MEGA Stage

Walkmen singer Hamilton Leithauser knows how to belt it out.  Crooning and yelling though a tight, hour long set, Leithauser led the band and a guest horn section through the band’s repertoire, including some new songs from upcoming Lisbon.  The band blazed through some quicker tracks, like audience favorite “The Rat,” but the group The Walkmen weren’t afraid to keep the tempo down.  With Leithauser’s captivating vocals and keyboardist Walter Martin’s entrancing organ tones, the band kept the audience engaged and nodding along.
