No doubt about it: Samantha Crain has a powerful voice. And on her June release You (Understood), this Oklahoma songstress uses it with gusto on marching, acoustic guitar driven tracks to delicate, folky ballads. Listen to “Blueprints” below:

As the summer chugs on, LouFest comes closer and closer. The end of August will bring a variety of outstanding artists to Forest Park, and each week we will highlight one of our favorites. This week, it’s Built to Spill.

I’ve never had to worry about shore breaks at a music festival before. However, after getting a mouthful of seawater just minutes before, I figured it might be a good time to start. I waded farther out from the beach at Gulf Shores, Alabama, and plotted how to catch the next wave to wash me back towards dry land. (more…)

Looking for something to do? No need to fear – here are some standout concerts happening over the next week:
1. Eytan and the Embassy
-Where: The Gramophone
-When: Friday, July 2nd @ 9 PM
-How Much: $5 – 21+
-Why: Rolling with bands like OK Go and the Polyphonic Spree, Eytan’s funk-infused pop-rock has garage crunch and has hooks that hit like a knockout punch.

I guess Passion Pit’s constant touring has caused mild memory loss in lead singer Michael Angelakos. Less than a year ago, Passion Pit played a show down the street at WashU – but that didn’t stop Angelakos from thanking the crowd for such a good turnout (a sold-out show, in fact) for the band’s first time in the Lou. However, his small blunder was far overshadowed by great sets by all three bands on the night’s bill. (more…)

Yeah, I know – I’m a huge Chromeo fan. But seriously, how could you not like their glittery, layered, but most importantly shameless 80s pop gems? Though their upcoming album release date for Business Casual just got moved back, Dave-1 and Pee Thug are keeping us on the line with new single, “Don’t Turn the Lights On.” Expect fifty remixes by tomorrow – but for now, enjoy the original below!

I hope you’re planning to get to the Passion Pit show this Wednesday early. BRAHMS, led by Cale Parks (well known in his own right from his solo projects and White Williams), will start the party out right with 80s throwback electronic beats warped to match the 21st century.
