Flogging Molly w/ the Architects and Frank Turner @ the Pageant, 3/10/2010

“How the fuck are you St. Louis?”  We’re great, Architects, thanks for asking.  The opening act for Flogging Molly Wednesday at the Pageant was a four piece outfit from “down the road” Kansas City, and they definitely brought rock ‘n’ roll with them.  Easy to handle, straightforward rock that your mother wouldn’t scour at.  Oh – and they’re fast.  It seems like it took less time for the Architects to play their first 3 songs than it took Jason (our photographer) to snap a shot.   (more…)

Pierced Arrows – Descending Shadows

Pierced Arrows are old people.  Well, relatively anyway.  They’re an Oregon based husband and wife duo, and they’re well in to their fifties, playing music longer than most of us have been alive.  Fred and Toody Cole, joined in this state by Kelly Halliburton on drums, are a garage rock staple.  In a previous incarnation, the Coles were Dead Moon.  Dead Moon released a massive 16 alums before disbanding, and now with Halliburton, they released their sophomore effort for their new group, Pierced Arrows, on Vice records. When you look at the roster of BYO Records, also known as Better Youth Organization, it’s a venerable list of the punk rock elite. 7 Seconds, The Unseen, Throwrag, Alkaline Trio, One Man Army, Rancid, Hot Water Music, The Bouncing Souls, The Briefs, and Youth Brigade, just to name a few of the genre kings that were part of the family at this independent, Los Angeles based label. This label has been kicking out the jams since 1982 and now they want to throw a little party.
