The Mardi Gras celebration in Soulard and Dropkick Murphys at the Pageant all in one night made for plenty of great factors for a rowdy night. The lights cut out as Dropkick Murphys took the stage while “The Boys are Back in Town” by Thin Lizzy played in the background. Their beloved Irish punk sound and the sold-out capacity made for an awesome, energetic fist pumping Saturday night. (more…)

Hometown heroes So Many Dynamos played to a jam-packed crowd last Friday night at the Firebird. The band brought their friends Bo and The Locomotive and US English on stage to wrap up the night with a cover of “Don’t You Want Me” by The Human League. (more…)

The Red Bull Music Academy On the Floor series welcomed Black Milk, a hip-hop artist and producer from Detroit to the Fox Hole. A lecture and Q & A with Black Milk started the evening, around 7 p.m. Local fans were eager to get answers about mixing, emceeing and his favorite rap artists around the Midwest. Later in the night, Black Milk kept everyone’s hands in the air with beat after thumping beat. Red Bull drinks were plentiful, and local star Black Spade warmed up the crowd before Black Milk and his full band took the stage. (more…)

JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound erupted on Off Broadway’s stage Friday night with their retro thumping soul, style and sound. The crowd immediately started grooving as the Uptown Sound’s drumbeats and catchy horns brought everyone to the dance floor. Brooks’ prominent stage performance and resonating vocals carried the set well into the night. (more…)

The Tap Room’s commitment to serving up suds may have played a part, but Ryne Watts and the Campfire Club lifted our spirits under a full moon downtown. A carefully covered song embodied the evening, “Wrote a Song for Everyone,” and you know that ain’t easy. (more…)

Union Tree Review brought new songs and and new lineup addition – a trumpet player – to the Sheldon Concert Hall Friday night. An acoustic folky number kicked off the set, and the band ended with a memorable performance of “Clouds.” Singer Tawaine Noah was glad to be back on stage, updating the crowd on the group’s recent activities and his personal beard growth. Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials brought their soulful Chicago blues and memorable stage energy to The Gramophone on Thursday, playing two sets late into the night. A master of the slide guitar, Lil’ Ed Williams and his booming voice hammered the blues into the crowd’s bones. (more…)

The CD release of The Arrangement, Humdrum’s second full length album, brought together local friends to help them celebrate. Humdrum played the whole album, building up to the thunderous sound of a powerful addition to the record’s closer. The crowd showed their love for Humdrum, by cheering them back on stage for an two song encore. (more…)

Warnings of the threatening ice storm didn’t keep California Wives out of St. Louis Sunday night at The Firebird. The quartet tried out a smoke machine for the first time, adding to their ambient synth pop sounds. The crowd favorite track, “Blood Red Youth” got the crowd moving their feet and finished off the set. (more…)
