This afternoon, Fattback’s guitarist/vocalist Dave Hagerty passed away after being involved in a hit-and-run car accident on Sunday morning at the intersection of Kingshighway and Manchester. He was with his girlfriend at the time of the accident, who suffered a broken arm and is currently in stable condition with a few minor injuries.
In addition to being the voice of Fattback, a reputable St. Louis band that released their EP EEE PEE last weekend, Hagerty was also a co-host of open-mic Monday’s at Venice Café. Tonight at 9 PM, Venice Café will be hosting a memorial in remembrance and honor of Dave Hagerty.
Our thoughts are with Hagerty’s family and friends during this tragic time.

Sunday’s schedule was packed to the brim with hot bands.
The first set we caught on Sunday was Best Coast. As fellow Eleven team member Noah said, “One of the best of the fest. Best Coast oozed surf pop goodness that made me a melty hot mess. The perfect mid-afternoon treat for a hot Sunday in the park.” And this time, we actually agree with him.

Saturday proved to be yet another day of sweltering Chicago heat. We tried to avoid the burning sun as long as possible – a good choice from what we’ve heard. A friend reported that Delorean’s typical dance show was compromised by the heat, and that few fans could stand the sun enough to dance for more than a few minutes before retreating to the shade.

Pitchfork 2010 came armed with a stellar line-up and added a comedy stage into the mix for the first time ever. More than just music, there was even a bazaar and free Cliff bars! With so many shows and so little time, our team split up to cover as many shows as possible and report back to you.

This week’s Record Club entry was mailed to us (figuratively) by Phono-Mode
“Finish reading these liner notes, or you’ll be cursed. You have in your hands a collectors item—the first album of The Shadows of Knight. One day you may want to bronze it, put it in a time capsule or give it to your heirs. Right now you’ll begin to lose part of your mind if you play it.”

Rowdy “flower-punkers” Black Lips aren’t your run-of-the-mill band. Guitarist Cole Alexander gives us the skinny on why their live shows have earned a reputation as “heathenistic” debauchery-fests, and why tonight’s set at the Firebird is one even Beetle Bob can’t miss.
You’ve been playing together since you were fairly young. How does that experience play into your live shows?
Cole Alexander:
You could say we’re pretty comfortable together. We’ve been playing for ten years now so we’re pretty tight now – we’re sloppy still, but we feel comfortable.
