Music starts at 8 and everyone gets in free.

FRIDAY, July 13th

Friday the 13th is supposed to be bad luck. But for everyone in St. Louis, it seems pretty lucky that this Friday, as part of the Celebrate St. Louis Concerts, we can all see free performances by the popular alternative rock group Neon Trees and local favorites, the indie rock duo, Sleepy Kitty. With such great national and local talent, Soldiers Memorial is the place to be. Get there early to see Sleepy Kitty perform at 6, followed by fellow locals, the soul band Superhero Killer at 7:30, and then Neon Trees at 9. Not convinced? Check out this Sleepy Kitty video shot by Bill Streeter of Lo-Fi St. Louis.

There will be performances by Evading Azrael, Lovers and Killers, Sex Drugs Lies, Analog Digital Disorder, From the Embrace, D-railed, and FunGoneWrong. This mix of local rock, metal, and funk guarantees an awesome party. Only those 18 and up can attend. It’s $10 at the door ($3 surcharge for under 21) and doors open at 7. Costumes are not required but are encouraged and prizes will be given out for the best costumes. Just make sure to stay clear of anyone wearing a hockey mask.

Woody Guthrie, whose legacy will forever influence folk music, would have turned 100 this year. And such a momentous birthday cannot go uncelebrated. So Off Broadway is hosting
a Woody Guthrie 100th Birthday Party Tribute which will double as a 88.1 KDHX Benefit. The event, called Just One Big Soul will feature Ben Bedford, Brothers Lazaroff, Kevin Buckley, Campfire Club, Colonel Ford, Cree Rider Family Duo, Greg Silsby and Dustin Greer, Letter to Memphis, Langen Neubacher & The Defeated County, Stickley & Canan, The Union Electric, and The Warbuckles. Doors open at 7 and tickets are $10. All of the profits will benefit 88.1 KDHX. But, if you can’t attend this tribute, Plush will also be hosting a tribute on Friday presented by the Folk School of St. Louis and Corey Woodruff.

The Celebrate St. Louis Summer Concerts continue on Saturday with Michael Franti and Spearhead. Known for not just his reggae and roots styled music, Franti is a constant advocate of social consciousness and environmentalism. When not working on his music career, Franti is actively involved in several charities and writes children’s books. Franti and Spearhead will perform at Soldiers Memorial at 9 with openers Über Cool, a local German-influenced rock/pop group, at 6 and singer-songerwriter Erin McCarley at 7:30.

Dash Rip Rock, a rock band trio from New Orleans, which was inducted into the Louisana Music Hall of Fame this year, will be performing at Broadway Oyster Bar. The show starts at 10. Opening will be local rock band All Roostered Up at 2 and fellow local Kyle Daniels at 6.

The Crack Fox welcomes R.Ring featuring Kelley Deal. R.Ring is a side project of Kelley’s when she’s not playing guitar for the Breeders, an alternative rock band formed in the late 80s by her twin sister. R.Ring consists of Kelley Deal and Mike Montgomery and is simply two voices and two guitars, so it’s extremely different from anything Kelley’s done with the Breeders. But her talent and experience definitely still show. The show starts at 9 and is open to those 21 and up.

SUNDAY, July 15th
