Looking for an opportunity to volunteer? Whether it’s your petite CV, passion or ennui that’s leading you to this desire, we here at Eleven know of a bad ass event that needs your help!
Terry Suhre at UMSL’s Gallery 210 is looking for creative people to help him coordinate Oliver Herring’s TASK Party. He needs people to help spread the word, set up, and participate in the event starting….NOW! E-mail Terry Suhre at suhret@umsl.edu for more volunteer information.
Now, you might be asking yourself, “Who the Hell is Oliver Herring? What in the name of Bikini Bottom is a TASK Party?!” Never fear, my bountiful literary skills are here to explain. God, DUH. Oliver Herring is a Brooklyn based experimental artist with a proclivity for throwing rad parties from here to Philly to San Fran in the name of ART!
Herring describes the TASK atmosphere as such, “[beginning with] a designated area (usually but not necessarily made from construction paper), a variety of props and materials (cardboard, plastic bags, pencils, tables cling wrap, tape, markers, ladders…) and the participation of people who agree to follow two simple, procedural rules: to write down a task on a piece of paper and add it to a designated “TASK pool,” and, secondly, to pull a task from that pool and interpret it any which way he or she wants, using whatever is on (or potentially off) stage. When a task is completed, a participant writes a new task, pulls a new task, and so on.”
Herring’s goal is to bring people together to interact with one another and their environment to achieve a sense of frivolity and interconnectedness.
