As the summer chugs on, LouFest comes closer and closer. The end of August will bring a variety of outstanding artists to Forest Park, and each week we will highlight one of our favorites. This week, it’s Titus Andronicus.
Classifying Titus Andronicus simply as indie-punkers would be selling them short. Though singer Patrick Stickles channels angst and sarcasm in his warbling vocals, whether muttering or yelling, Titus Andronicus incorporates too many influences and instruments to let his erratic singing totally define the group. Take their most recent release, 2010′s The Monitor – you’ll find Clash guitar riffs, sweeping folk choruses, 1960s rock cues, warped Springsteen pontificating, and a narrative full of historical references to the Civil War. And when a bagpipe chimes in during album closer “The Battle of Hampton Roads,” Titus Andronicus proves that nothing is beyond their musical prowess. Check out the band’s material on their MySpace.
