Electronic music-maker and dance party starter Derek Vincent Smith, better known as Pretty Lights, is bringing his surreal, glitch and sample filled hip-hop beats to the Pageant on Friday night. Featured in our September ’09 issue, Pretty Lights has been steadily gaining national attention and just released new EP, Making Up a Changing Mind. Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention: it’s free.

Local prog-rock hitmen The Pat Sajak Assassins are gearing up for a new album, Approved By NASA, in the coming weeks. Saturday night’s show at Mangia Italiano will be a great chance to catch a sneak peek at their forthcoming release in a live setting. If their last album Lunch?!? is any indication, expect more mesmerizing and spacey interludes broken up by effects-driven and guitar-heavy freakouts. Hard to argue with a free show and $2 PBRs. Harder still to convince the Mangia staff to bring you a plate of pasta after the kitchen closes, but it might be worth a shot.
