Bring yourself and your talent to the Gramophone as Do314 presents The Shed Open Mic and Music Workshop. They welcome groups, solo acts, rappers, comedians, and basically any act that you can fit on their stage. They can provide a backing band for acts as well. Laren Loveless of the Reeling Gilly Band will be the host and sign-ups start at 7:30. The free show starts at 8. Fans of Alberta Cross have been patiently waiting for the band to release a new full-length album and finally after three years, the appropriately named album, Songs of Patience, is to be released on the 17th. On that same day, Alberta Cross will be playing a show at Off Broadway. Swedish-born Petter Ericson Stakee and London-born Terry Wolfers are the founders of the New York-based alternative rock band. Opening will be the LA-based rock band, Everest. Doors open at 8 and tickets are $12 in advance and $14 the day of. There is a $3 charge for minors.

88.1 KDHX welcomes the Dirty Projectors to the Pageant. The New York-based indie rock band recently released their 8th album, Swing Lo Magellan, on July 10th. Opening will be Wye Oak, an indie duo from Baltimore. Doors open at 7. Tickets are $20 in advance and $22.50 the day of. There is a $2 minor surcharge at the door.

The age old combination of alcohol and music is alive and well at Schlafly Bottleworks. Every week, Schlafly hosts Funky Wednesdays which feature a different Teddy Presberg music project each week. St. Louis-local Teddy Presberg and his often improvisational psychedelic jazz guarantee a fun show. Teddy, and a few inhibition-neutralizing Schlafly beers, will definitely have you on your feet and dancing. The show is from 8 to 11.

A Place to Bury Strangers is not just the number one item on every serial killers wish list; it’s also an awesome New York-based experimental rock band. Known for their skillful and emotional songs played at extremely loud volumes, APTBS is bringing that volume to the Firebird. Opening will be APTBS’s fellow New York rockers, the Hunters, and Britches, a local group who promises a visual spectacle like they’ve never done before. Doors open at 8. Tickets are $12 and there is a $3 minor surcharge.

88.1 KDHX welcomes Old Crow Medicine Show to the Pageant. Old Crow Medicine Show is a Nashville-based string band with their own unique style of American roots/rock music. Known for their energetic and spirited live shows, Old Crow Medicine Show comes off as anything but old during their performances. Opening will be Nashville’s Chuck Mead & His Grassy Knoll Boys. This pairing guarantees a fun, lively show of Nashville’s best. Doors open at 7. Tickets are $30 in advance and $34 the day of. There is a $2 minor surcharge at the door.

The Crack Fox has your fix of rockabilly music this Friday. Performing will be Nashville’s Jane Rose & The Deadend Boys as well as St. Louis’ own Trip Daddys. The show starts at 9. Tickets are $8 and is open to those 21 and up.

If your Saturday night plans don’t already include being cajoled by a drag queen to move your booty, then you need to head down to the Firebird to see a performance by Big Freedia, the Queen Diva of New Orleans. A part of the “Sissy Bounce” (a local term) music community, which features gay and cross-dressing musicians, Big Freedia will have everyone shaking it. Doors open at 8. Tickets are $13 to $15. There is a $3 minor surcharge at the door.

Austin’s famous country musician Junior Brown is coming to Beale on Broadway. One of the best country guitarists of all time, Junior Brown plays a unique blend of country and rock that can win over even the most anti-country listener. Junior invented his own guitar, a creation that combines a standard 6-string guitar and a steel guitar. Junior, like his guitar, is a one of a kind and definitely worth seeing. The show is at 10.

BoDeans, the Milwaukee-based roots rock band, is coming to St. Louis. They will be performing at the Old Rock House. BoDeans recently came out with their eleventh album, American Made. And, of course, anything related to the number Eleven has to be awesome. But, besides numerical coincidences, BoDeans brings many years of experience and a dedication to their fans and their music to each of their shows and this performance will be no exception. Opening will be the pop rock group, Miles Nielson & the Rusted Hearts. An Illinois-native, Miles strives to represent the Midwest through his music. Doors open at 7. New Orleans-native Rockin’ Jake is one of the best harmonica players in the country. Jake, his harmonica, and his band will all be at the Blues City Deli this Saturday for a daytime performance. While eating some of the best sandwiches in St. Louis, you can enjoy the Rockin’ Jake Band. They will perform from 1 to 3:30.
