88.1 KDHX welcomes Kasey Anderson and the Honkies to Off Broadway. The Seattle-based singer-songwriter Kasey Anderson leads his Honkies through emotionally charged songs whose subjects span across the human experience. Some of his most powerful songs deal with the emotional impact of war on soldiers. Opening will be two St. Louis bands: Miles of Wire, an indie rock group, and The Dive Poets, an alt-country band. Doors open at 7:30. Tickets are $8.81 in advance and $10 the day of. There is a $3 minor surcharge.

Beth Bombara will be performing at the Plush accompanied by The Ebanjolist. With his help, Beth will have no trouble converting you into one of her many fans. Beth is a fixture in the St. Louis music community and known for her talent and versatility as a singer-songwriter. If you haven’t been to one of her shows before, then this is great opportunity to enjoy awesome music for free. The show is open to those 18 and up. Doors open at 8.

Head down to Off Broadway to see a performance by Nashville-natives Jake and Jamin Orrall who form the psychedelic/grunge rock band, JEFF the Brotherhood. 2720 Cherokee is hosting a night of reggae with a performance by Sister Carol backed by Fyah Enagy. A Jamaica-native, Sister Carol is a Grammy-nominated singer as well as an actress, entrepreneur, and humanitarian. Her humanitarian goals show through her music, which often deals with the importance of social consciousness and cultural heritage. Also performing will be the STL Women in Reggae, which includes Desirea, Starkis, Lady J, Sistah Sol’Chile, and Empress Shae. Doors open at 8. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 the day of. The show is open to those 18 and up.

Mid America Chevy Dealers and the Chevy Music Showcase present a performance by Sons of Great Dane, Middle Class Fashion, and Scarlet Tanager. These three great pop bands will be playing at Off Broadway for a free 21 and over show. Kansas City’s Sons of Great Dane are a pop rock band. Middle Class Fashion is a St. Louis-based pop trio. Scarlet Tanager is either a medium-sized American songbird or a six-piece indie pop band from St. Louis. Doors open at 7:30.

Plush welcomes St. Louis’ Dubb Nubb and their opener Tom Sauk. The indie folk group Dubb Nubb is made up of twin sisters Hannah and Delia Rainey, as well as Amanda Rainey. Tom Sauk is an Americana-rock trio from Cape Girardeau. Doors open at 8. The free show is open to those 18 and up.

Head down to 2720 Cherokee for Cherokee Nights: “First Friday Arts Affair”. The event’s featured artist is Chris Sabatino of Art Monster. Limited edition T-shirts designed by Sabatino will be available. Music will be split between two floors. On the 2nd floor is St. Louis electro group, Quasar Camp. On the 1st floor will be two St. Louis groups: The Psychedelic Psychonauts, a psychedelic rock n’ roll band, and the Justin Torres’ Loop Project, which features looping in natural time. Also on the 1st floor will be Portland’s Americana-pop group, The Ascetic Junkies. The party starts at 6 and won’t end till 1. It’s open to those 18 and up. There is a $5 suggested donation.

The Gramophone is being taken over by the Screwed Arts Collective. But, they promise to leave the beloved venue in better shape than they found it. The Takeover is allowing the Collective to transform the fence of the Gramophone’s patio through a live, collaborative wall drawing. There will also be a performance by St. Louis’ funky soul group, Big Brother and the MasterBlasters. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 the day of. The show is open to those 18 and up. For those of you who were heartbroken when experimental rock band, Ween, broke up, Off Broadway is hosting an event called Taste The Waste – A Tribute to Ween. Come celebrate the life of an awesome band through a great tribute show featuring performances by The Feed, The Cree Rider Family Band, Picture Day, Fattback, Sean Canan, and False Moves. And for those of you who don’t know what Ween was, let this video of Ween covering Zeppelin convince you that Ween definitely deserves your attention and this tribute show definitely deserves your attendance. Plush has put together a fantastic night of talented St. Louis’ bands. Starting off the night will be Royal Smokestacks, an Americana-rock group. Next, in their last show of 2012, will be the power pop group, Tight Pants Syndrome. Finally, there will be a performance by the five-piece punk/blues band, Kentucky Knife Fight. Tickets are $8 and the show is open to those 18 and up. Doors open at 8. If you aren’t able to make it on Friday, the Screwed Arts Takeover at the Gramophone will last on into Saturday. The Screwed Arts Collective will be continuing to beautify the Gramophone’s patio fence. There will also be performances by Serengeti, a Chicago hip-hop artist known for assuming the identities of the characters in his songs, and by St. Louis bass/drum duo, Volcanoes. The Gramophone welcomes Dear Creek to St. Louis. The indie-folk band is entirely made up of students at Shenandoah University, a growing music conservatory in Winchester, VA. Opening for Dear Creek will be the rock group from Columbia, MO, We Live In Public, and St. Louis acoustic duo, Letter To Memphis. Tickets are $5. The show is open to those 18 and up. Doors open at 6:30.

Go to the Firebird to see performances by four St. Louis bands that make me feel as if I was extremely unproductive in high school. Despite their young ages, these talented bands guarantee an awesome show. The headliner, Tidal Volume, is a rock band that just released their first CD in April. The openers are Clockwork, an alternative rock trio, Without Hazard, a four-piece rock band, and Fiona Wild & The Midnight Lights. Doors open at 7. Tickets are $10 with a $3 minor surcharge. The show is open to all ages.
